Putting Milwaukee BBQ on the Map.

Overview

Before 2016, Milwaukee wasn’t well known for its BBQ. Now the Milwaukee Bucks makes sure anyone coming into town gets a chance to see what Milwaukee has to offer, thanks to Iron Grate.

  • UI / UX Design
  • Front-end Engineering

In 2016, Iron Grate opened its first location in south Milwaukee with humble beginnings. They needed me to rapidly put together signage, business cards, menu designs, product packaging, and a simple website to support their grand opening.

It was a nothing short of a hit, to say the least.

Fast forward to present-day, and Iron Grate is now a foodie’s BBQ fantasy, just down the street from General Mitchell Airport.

For four years, I’ve continued to support Iron Grate as a consultant with many aspects of their operation, including marketing, branding, merchandising, and technical guidance. Inside the restaurant, for example, Iron Grate uses digital menus powered by an in-house managed web app. This app simultaneously controls the menus on the screens inside the store as well as the website.

At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Iron Grate swiftly came up with a plan of action to allow them to serve their community. They came to me looking for help distributing the messaging to their customers, which included updates to their website to funnel customers towards online ordering.

Through simple adjustments to the customer journey, including landing page optimizations, we saw a 350%+ increase in monthly traffic, and an 80% increase in monthly online orders.
